Remote AI and Tech Jobs: How Many Are Really Remote, and Who Offers Them
By Ghulam Ahmad, Software Engineer · Published October 26, 2026 · 5 min read
Short answer: About 532 of the 6,122 active listings on CoreTechRoles, roughly 9%, are fully remote (as of October 20, 2026). They are concentrated: ElevenLabs, Reddit, Cohere and Databricks account for about 70% of them. Among roles with an AI or machine learning term in the title, 65 of 797 (8%) are remote. If you are searching for a remote AI job, knowing which employers actually hire remotely saves a lot of time.
What "remote" means here
We label a listing as remote when the location says so explicitly, for example "Remote - United States", or when the job board marks the role as remote. We do not count "remote-friendly" roles that require an office or regular travel, and we don't count hybrid roles. That is stricter than some job boards, and it matters for a few employers (see below). The details are in how we collect and label job listings.
Who offers remote roles
| Company | Remote listings | All listings | Share remote |
|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | 118 | 154 | 77% |
| 115 | 147 | 78% | |
| Cohere | 79 | 116 | 68% |
| Databricks | 58 | 883 | 7% |
| LangChain | 31 | 102 | 30% |
| Sierra | 27 | 186 | 15% |
| OpenAI | 22 | 813 | 3% |
| Synthesia | 16 | 47 | 34% |
| Harvey | 12 | 342 | 4% |
| Glean | 10 | 134 | 7% |
| Vercel | 10 | 93 | 11% |
The first four rows add up to 370 listings, about 70% of all the remote roles in our data. So a "remote AI jobs" search is really a search across a handful of employers.
What the table shows
Remote-first and remote-heavy are different things. Reddit, ElevenLabs and Cohere post most of their roles as remote. Databricks has the fourth-most remote listings, but they are only 7% of its 883 openings. OpenAI has 22 remote listings out of 813. If you want a company where most of the team works remotely, look at the share, not the count.
Several well-known employers have no fully remote listings in our data. Anthropic, Scale AI, xAI, Figma, Wayve, Nuro, Figure AI, Perplexity and Fireworks AI all show zero. In Anthropic's case, many listings say "Remote-Friendly (Travel-Required)", which we count as not fully remote. That wording can still suit some candidates, so read those postings rather than dismissing them.
Remote AI-titled roles are a small slice. 65 of the 797 listings with an AI or ML term in the title are remote, about 8%, close to the share across all listings. At least 30 of them are "Remote - United States", and 6 are "Remote - Ontario".
Does remote pay more or less?
Among AI-titled listings that state pay, the median midpoint was about $276K for remote roles (36 listings) and about $256K for non-remote roles (458 listings). We would not conclude anything from that. Thirty-six listings is a small sample, and it is dominated by a few employers. What we can say is that remote AI roles in this data are not obviously paid less. For the larger pay picture, see what AI and machine learning jobs pay.
Reading a remote listing carefully
- The place after the dash matters. "Remote - United States" usually means you must live in the US. "Remote - Ontario" points to Canada. A remote role is often limited to certain countries or states.
- Check time zones. Some remote teams expect overlap with a headquarters time zone, even when the location line doesn't say so.
- Ask how you would be employed. Employers differ in whether they can hire in your country directly, use a contractor arrangement, or can't hire there at all. The posting may not say, so ask early.
- "Remote" can change. Policies shift, and a role listed as remote can later require some office time. Use the employer's page as the final word.
What this data can't tell you
- It covers 39 companies, not the whole market. Plenty of remote AI jobs exist at companies we don't list.
- Our remote label depends on how each employer words its location, so a few roles that are remote in practice may not be counted.
- It's a snapshot. Remote roles open and close quickly.
