Where the AI Jobs Are: Cities With the Most AI and Machine Learning Openings

By Ghulam Ahmad, Software Engineer · Published October 28, 2026 · 4 min read

Short answer: Of the 797 listings on CoreTechRoles with an AI or machine learning term in the title (as of October 20, 2026), the San Francisco Bay Area accounts for about half, led by San Francisco (211) and Mountain View (128). London is the biggest hub outside the US (58). Remote roles (mostly "Remote - United States") make up about 8%. The map is shaped by which 39 companies we cover, so read it as a picture of those employers.

How we counted

For each active listing whose title includes a term such as AI, ML, machine learning, LLM, generative or data scientist, we took the first location the employer lists. A role listed in several cities is counted once, under its first city. We then grouped obvious spelling variants together (for example, "New York" and "New York City", or "Bengaluru" and "Bangalore"). Methodology is covered in how we collect and label job listings.

The top locations

Location AI-titled listings Share of 797
San Francisco 211 26%
Mountain View 128 16%
London 58 7%
Sunnyvale 41 5%
New York (both spellings) 39 5%
Remote - United States 30 4%
Bengaluru / Bangalore 19 2%
Tokyo 18 2%
Singapore 11 1%
Munich 10 1%
San Jose 9 1%
Seoul 6 1%
Palo Alto 5 1%

A further 9 listings name both San Francisco and New York City, 11 give only "United States", and 6 say "Remote - Ontario".

What the table shows

The Bay Area dominates. Add up San Francisco, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Palo Alto and you get 394 listings, about 49% of the total, and that is without counting smaller Bay Area towns that didn't reach the top of the table. Mountain View's number is likely helped by Waymo, which is headquartered there and has 91 AI-titled listings in our data.

London is the largest hub outside the US. At 58 listings it is bigger than Tokyo, Bengaluru and Singapore combined (48). Employers such as Wayve, which is UK-based, probably help explain it, but the listings alone don't show which employers account for how much.

New York is the largest US hub outside the Bay Area. Combining "New York" and "New York City" gives 39 listings, with another 9 shared with San Francisco.

Asia and Europe appear in smaller clusters. Bengaluru (19, counting both spellings), Tokyo (18), Singapore (11), Munich (10) and Seoul (6) each hold a modest number of listings. Because these numbers are small, a single employer opening an office can change the ranking quickly.

Why concentration matters if you're job hunting

  • Location matters at the top of the market. Outside the remote roles, a listing generally means working in or near that city, and relocation support varies. Check each posting.
  • Outside the hubs, you will see fewer roles. If you live far from the cities above, the choice is between remote work (about 8% of AI-titled listings) and being open to relocation.
  • Look for employers expanding abroad. Offices in London, Tokyo, Bengaluru, Singapore and Seoul show up in the data. Check whether the listing mentions visa or relocation support, which we don't track.

What this data can't tell you

  • It reflects 39 companies. Many are headquartered in the Bay Area, so the Bay Area looks bigger than it might in a broader sample.
  • First location only. A role open in five cities counts in one.
  • City names are as employers write them. We combined the obvious variants but may have missed some. "Washington" could mean the state or the capital, so we left it out.
  • It's a snapshot, and employers open and close roles all the time.

Frequently asked questions

Where are most AI jobs located? In our data, about half of AI-titled listings are in the San Francisco Bay Area, with San Francisco itself the largest at 211 listings. London is next among single cities at 58.

Are there AI jobs outside the US? Yes. London, Bengaluru, Tokyo, Singapore, Munich and Seoul all appear in our top locations, along with a smaller number of remote roles tied to particular countries.

Do I have to live where the job is? For most listings, yes, at least part of the time. Remote roles are about 8% of AI-titled listings, and they are often limited to certain countries.

Will the ranking change? Probably, as employers expand or open new offices. This is a snapshot from October 20, 2026.
